Sparkling Ginger Lemonade. A refreshing drink that can be enjoyed year-round. Flavours that taste amazing even in winter. Ingredients that can be found 365 days a year. Nutrition that the body needs every day. Really the perfect drink for every season and every reason.
On the list of all the things we do for a healthy lifestyle, I feel nourishing drinks are way too low—or sometimes even non-existent. Maybe it's because their health benefits are too underestimated. So I’m putting it out here. Beverages, particularly detoxifying drinks like sparkling ginger lemonade, can play a huge role in cleansing our bodies. It’s packed with…
Antioxidants
Vitamin C
Fibre
Anti-inflammatory compounds
Potassium
I love how quickly this drink comes together. 5 minutes and 1 step. Just collect the ingredients, and blitz together. Yup, it’s done!
And… I guess if making lemonade becomes a “project,” we’re probably doing it wrong, no? 😆
Prepare a batch of this ginger lemonade on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy it throughout the week. It tastes fresh and good for up to 5 days (if stored properly, of course). I would recommend preparing the concentrate only. You can then quickly squeeze some fresh lime juice, and mix it with the concentrate, sparkling water, and agave syrup when ready to drink.
The truth is, it’s really a struggle to chug in 2 to 3 litres of water every day. But you know what? It's so much easier (and exciting) when I know my tumbler is filled with lemonade. I don’t know how this makes sense. Maybe it’s the delicious flavours? Or perhaps the extra nutrition that keeps me motivated? Either way, it’s just so easy to drink 8 glasses of water this way.
I recently had nausea for over a week, and a touch of flu. Worst combo, I know. I tried multiple different things, even hot ginger tea. But my stomach just didn’t cooperate. I made this ginger lemonade at room temperature, and 2 days in, all the nausea was gone!
The best part? There’s no added sugars. That means no guilt 🥳 The drink tastes sweet on its own—and it’s so good, I didn’t stop drinking it even after I was feeling completely better.
Fresh ginger. Not powdered. Never. Please. It really compromises the flavour. Fresh ginger is best. I used young ginger (sometimes called baby ginger). It’s especially perfect for those who find ginger’s taste too overpowering. Also, you can leave the skin on—it adds to the nutrition!
Fresh apple juice. Bottled apple juice usually contains added sugars and preservatives (something we definitely don’t want in our vegan ginger lemonade!). So I recommend making it at home. It’s really simple. Just cut the apples (and remove the seeds). Blend and strain. That’s all. See Tip 1👇🏼
Fresh lemon. Not bottled. I pick fresh lemons from the tree in my dad's garden in France every time I visit (another reason why I love making this drink; puts homegrown produce to such good use). See Tip 2 and 3👇🏼
¼ cup concentrate. Prepared above. See Tip 4👇🏼
Sparkling water. Neutral in flavour—just with a fizzy texture. I mostly use a SodaStream but I've also used a supermarket own brand, a bit like Perrier (but cheaper). Any of your favourite brands will work, though. A flavoured option, like raspberry lime sparkling water, also tastes wonderful. See Tip 5 and 6👇🏼
Agave syrup. For a touch of sweetness. I like to keep my sparkling water lemonade on the tangier side, so I don’t add too much of this ingredient.
Lemon and lime juice. Though the concentrate already has lemon juice, I like to add a mix of lemon & lime juice separately to each drink. It really adds to the overall flavour profile!
Crushed ice. To make the drink truly refreshing 🧊
Sharp Knife
High-Speed Blender
Prepare the concentrate. Make the apple juice, if not already prepared. Then blend together the lemon juice, apple juice, and ginger (no need to peel it). Strain through a fine sieve to remove the pulp. It will leave you with a super smooth concentrate consistency.
Crush the ice (optional) and add it to the glass(es) you will serve the lemonade in.
Mix the drink. Combine the ingredients of the drink with ¼ cup of concentrate. Gently stir to combine well. Don’t shake; we don’t want to hurt the bubbles of the sparkling water.
Insert a straw and enjoy 🥤🤍
The ginger and lemon juice needs to be fresh… but we’ve got other substitutes and add-ons.
Pineapple juice instead of apple juice.
Maple syrup instead of agave syrup.
Frozen fruit (like berries) instead of crushed ice.
Club soda instead of sparkling water.
Mint leaves
Cinnamon stick
Cucumber slices
Vanilla extract
Grapefruit juice
Coconut water
Use the freshest ingredients (and organic, wherever possible) for this recipe.

The variety of apples really matters. Honeycrisp apples, for example, offer a sweeter taste, and Granny Smith apples are on the tangier side. Choose according to the taste you want to highlight the most in the lemonade.
Roll the lemons and limes between your palm and countertop to extract maximum juice. If refrigerated, you can place them in the microwave for a quick 20 seconds.
Pick lemons that feel heavy for their size—they will be the juiciest!
You can drink the concentrate on its own as a zesty ginger shot. And if I’m not wrong… this has been a popular TikTok trend too, right?
Pour the sparkling water slowly to avoid losing its carbonation. Keeping it chilled can also help.
If you like sparkling water, but not the grocery trip it requires (or the delivery time, if ordered online), or the waste of plastic, you can try a SodaStream machine instead. It carbonates regular water with just a push of a button. I got it as a present many moons ago and thought I wouldn't love it, but I do — I’d definitely give it a 10/10.
Sparkling ginger lemonade is a super refreshing drink on its own. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it with fulfilling sides. Some of my favourites are…
Veggie sticks with hummus
Avocado toast
Mango sorbet
Spiced nuts
Homemade ginger cookies
You can even use ginger lemonade to deglaze onions—I’m sure you haven’t heard of this one before! I made caramelised onion gravy a few days back, and I used this drink to deglaze the onions. It turned out so so good, my hubs couldn’t believe I made it at home 😜
I batch-make the concentrate (not the whole drink). It stays fresh in the fridge for up to 5 days, and takes only 2 minutes to prepare a fresh glass of lemonade on the day to be served.
You can also freeze the concentrate for longer storage. I would recommend storing it in serving-size portions, so you can thaw it easily whenever needed.
Not at all. It’s completely sugar-free. No added preservatives. No extra calories. Just pure, healthy bliss 💛
Pineapple juice is a great alternative, offering a tropical twist while keeping the drink naturally sweet.
Fresh ginger is best for flavor and nutrition. Powdered ginger can be overpowering and lacks the same refreshing quality.
