Sweet and tangy, this vegan honey mustard vinaigrette is the perfect dressing for any and every salad. It comes together so quickly with the most basic household staples and is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. And did I mention it’s oil-free and low-calorie? Basically everything you look for in a healthy condiment.
The dressing defines the taste of a salad. Becoming vegan meant I would have to quit many of my favourite sauces. So I decided to create my own healthy, plant-based versions. And, I kid you not, ever since I found this recipe, I want to drench all my salads in this mouthwatering honey mustard vinaigrette. It has eventually become one of the most wanted items on the menu for everyday meals and for get-togethers with friends—even my non-vegan buddies love it!
Even if cooking isn’t your thing, making the honey mustard vinaigrette is still a breeze. Gather the ingredients and blend—it’s as simple as that. Barely takes 10 minutes.
Salads are a go-to idea for folks on a fat loss journey. But unhealthy and high-calorie dressings, like Caesar, ranch, blue cheese, etc., often end up killing the purpose of eating clean. To solve the problem, I came up with the tasteful vegan honey mustard vinaigrette to make sure everyone gets to enjoy a healthy meal that is also super delicious and creamy.
Onion. Choose a sweet onion variety like Vidalia or Walla Walla for a milder flavour. Tip: Mince finely to avoid overpowering the dressing.
Dijon mustard. Delivers the signature "honey mustard" tang. I used whole-grain mustard to give the dressing a bit of texture. Smooth dijon works for a creamier texture.
Apple cider vinegar. Provides acidity to balance the sweetness and create a classic vinaigrette base.
Agave syrup or maple syrup. Replicates the taste of honey in the traditional honey mustard dressing.
Mayonnaise. I prepared and used my own homemade vegan mayonnaise. You can also replace it with soft/silken tofu for a lighter dressing.
Himalayan salt. Enhances overall flavour. Regular salt can also be used, but it lacks the minerals present in Himalayan salt.
Cracked bell pepper. Adds a touch of depth to the flavour.
Combine all ingredients. Add the minced onion, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, agave syrup, vegan mayonnaise (or tofu), salt, and pepper to a blender.
Blend until smooth. Blitz the ingredients for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until the dressing reaches your desired consistency. Tip: Stop for a chunkier texture. Blend longer for a smoother dressing.
Season and adjust flavours (optional). Taste the dressing and adjust the seasoning.
Serve and enjoy. Drizzle the vegan honey mustard vinaigrette over your favourite salad greens and enjoy! 😋
I’d recommend sticking to Dijon mustard. Plain yellow mustard will compromise the flavour profile. For the rest of the ingredients, you can look for variations & substitutions like—
Date syrup or brown rice syrup instead of agave syrup.
Lemon juice instead of apple cider vinegar.
Shallots instead of onions.
To try a different (but equally delicious) flavour, you can try any of these add-ons—
A dollop of sriracha for a spicy kick.
Chopped cranberries for fruity sweetness.
Walnuts or almonds for a nice crunchy bite.
To maximise health benefits, use raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar.
If you want a sweeter onion flavour, saute the onion in a pan with a splash of water before blending.
For the best flavour, use fresh black pepper.
My personal favourite is using the honey mustard vinaigrette as a salad dressing for Mexican salads or Waldorf salads. But the good thing is, this super versatile vinaigrette extends way beyond. You can use it as—
A drizzle over roasted vegetables
A dip for crudités
A base for a fajita wrap
A sauce for bean burritos
A sauce for falafel pita sandwich
A drizzle over easy vegan tabbouleh
Add your leftover honey mustard vinaigrette to an airtight jar and store it in the fridge. It will stay fresh for up to 5 days. Tip: The flavours deepen when left to sit, so make sure to taste and adjust the seasonings before using.

And there you have it, folks. Your one-stop shop for a versatile and delicious condiment. One that doesn’t use any oil, and is super healthy for you! Especially useful if you’re hosting guests. This one’s a crowd pleaser—and you’d have to try to find out 😉
